Amagansett /ˌæməˈɡænsət/ is a census-designated place that roughly corresponds to the hamlet by the same name in the Town of East Hampton in Suffolk County, New York, on the South Shore of Long Island. It has a total of 6.6 square miles (17.0 km2) area which 99.33% is the total land area and the remaining 0.37% or about 0.039 square miles (0.1 km2) is water.

Amagansett stood at the eastern tip of Long Island at the end of the last ice age. Montauk was an island in the Atlantic at the time. As ocean currents carried sand across space, space was filled with sand. The area is now called Napeague.

Amagansett has many distinct places, including Amagansett village, Beach Hampton, and the Devon Colony on Gardiner's Bay. Also of note are the "Walking Dunes" in Napeague and the Atlantic Double Dunes. Bordering to the north is the hamlet called Springs, Easthampton North on the east, across to the west is Napeague and facing the south is the vast Atlantic Ocean.

There are three main highways the passes through Amagansett: 

Town Lane Highway coming from Easthampton North that intersects with Old Stone Highway in the middle of the hamlet and the Montauk Highway which passes through the hamlet’s downtown area.
