Until about the 1970s, carpet shampoo cleaning was a very popular type of service. But, not so much anymore. Still, almost in every other inquiry we get brings up shampoo.
For the most park shampooing a carpet to get it clean is a dead cleaning method. This is because deep steam cleaning (also known as hot water extraction) has taken over due to the faster drying times. It’s almost impossible to find information on carpet shampooing or actually try to find a company that will do it for you.
In fact, there are a number of reasons why deep steam cleaning is a much better cleaning method than shampooing. It is easier to use as the equipment is much lighter. It is also less time consuming as it dries up much faster. Shampooing would mean thorough rinsing with water which soaks the carpet taking longer to completely dry out. Whereas the alternative only uses steam.
Then, after waiting for the carpet to completely dry up, you will still feel as though the carpet has a sticky residue left over on the surface.
This will cause more dirt to adhere to the carpet which is only counterproductive. Over time the carpet will also get yellowish blotches all over due to the chemicals used when shampooing.
In this day and age, only the worst carpet scenarios will call for shampoo cleaning. Such as a thick dark muddy stain, thick grime and a carpet that pretty much looks black and has been for years.
Overall, these conditions are enough to rationalize shampooing your carpets. However, it’s really not needed as there is nothing deep steam cleaning can’t do.
