A lot of the service inquiries we get asked the question of if our cleaning methods include shampooing. Carpet shampoo washing used to be a very popular service from way back in the 1970s.

Carpet shampoo cleaning is now generally regarded as an outdated cleaning method. Thanks to the introduction of deep steam cleaning or hot water extraction which offers a much quicker drying period than the former. This makes it almost an impossible to find a company that still does carpet shampooing.

Generally, we can say that deep steam cleaning is a better alternative to shampooing. One reason is that the apparatus is lighter making it easier to use. Another is that it is much faster to dry because the procedure only uses steam, verses shampooing which dries up much longer. Imagine it is like soaking your carpet in a washing machine to completely rinse off excess soap.

After all the waiting, you’ll end up a bit disappointed to feel the carpet has got quite a sticky. This is a residue left over from the shampoo.

Dust and dirt will stick to this reside which would someday require a more intense cleaning which is counter-productive. Not to mention the chemicals of the shampoo will, later on, create a yellowish stain to the carpet.

With the presence of better methods, shampoo cleaning is almost never used. Unless it’s the worst carpet situation like those really heavy stains, mud, and practically black looking carpets. And the carpet has been like this for years.

Generally in a commercial setting, this could be a justifiable reason to shampoo the carpet. But even then a carpet like that can easily be cleaned to look like new with deep steam cleaning.
